Presque Isle aka “Wisconsin’s Last Wilderness” is the ideal destination for your Northwoods vacation. Presque Isle sits at the top of Wisconsin, shares a border with Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and is immediately adjacent to the Ottawa National Forest, offering nearly 1 million acres of public land, as well as the Northern Highland State Forest offering over 250,000 acres of public land. Presque Isle is surrounded by over 1,000 lakes and more than 70 rivers. One could enjoy a different lake or stream every day for three years without ever visiting the same water twice, and that doesn’t even take into consideration the countless bodies of water that await just over the state line in Michigans’s Upper Peninsula. Enjoy sailing, skiing, scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, or just watching the sunset over a tranquil shoreline. Explore the many trails for mountain bikers, hikers, birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The millions of acres of forests, waters, and wetlands are home to an astounding array of wildlife. Presque Isle serves as one of the Midwest’s top snowmobiling destinations. Located within the Lake Superior Snowbelt, Presque Isle sees more snow than most other Wisconsin locations. Over 600 miles of snowmobile trails are in Vilas County. Trails are marked, maintained, and safe for all to enjoy. Relax in this updated 2 bedroom unit with all the amenities of home. Paddle around with one of the provided canoes and kayaks, or enjoy the summer sun and swim the clear water off the pier to the swim raft. Have a campfire and appreciate the surrounding nature. After a busy day of play, unwind in front of the cozy gas stove. Need more room? Consider renting the adjoining Bay View Lodge. We stayed in the Carriage House, not the main cabin. It was a great location to get away with family to celebrate a birthday. Clean and comfortable, with that cozy cabin feel. We had 6 adults and 2 labs, and it was comfortable and spacious. Spectacular views of Presque Isle!

Overall, a great experience! We were familiar with the area but didn’t realize the extent of the slope to the lake so it was a good thing this was a guys trip - would not have worked for the dogs and kids. Great communication, everything was easy and made our trip great!

Our family had an awesome winter getaway! The house was clean and well equipped when we arrived. We appreciated the gift basket! The caretaker met us upon arrival and showed us some of the workings of the house. The owner actually called to make sure we had everything we needed and that was very thoughtful.
We were thrilled with the view of the lake as well as the sense of privacy but it's not too remote or too secluded for our tastes. We came to cross country ski. We skied the lake as well as Katherine Wolter preserve and Winman trails both nearby and fantastic. It was 10-15 degrees below zero most of our week but we were cozy and warm when inside. The cold didn't stop our having fun out in the snow! Can't think of any negatives. Would definitely come back again.
P. S. Our furry doggies had a blast too, thanks for letting us bring them!
Three generations of the Thompson family thank you!!
